About Espero

Insurance news in California is either buried in regulatory filings or rewritten so many times that the useful part disappears. Espero exists to fix that. Each article explains one change, what it means for your home or car, and what you can do about it, in language you don't need a license to understand.
Many questions about California insurance could be answered months earlier if someone explained the news in plain English. That's what this site is for.
How we work
- Sources first. We start with the original: the California Department of Insurance, the state legislature, the FAIR Plan, and insurers' own filings. Trade publications like Risk & Insurance and Insurance Journal help us spot what's coming, then we confirm it at the source.
- Every fact is linked. Each article ends with its sources so you can check our work.
- Rumors get checked, not repeated. If something is reported but not confirmed, we say so plainly, or we don't run it.
- Dated and updated. Every article shows when it was last checked. When facts change, we update the article and the date.
- Corrections. If we get something wrong, we fix it and note the correction.
What Espero is, and isn't
Espero is an independent, informational publication. It isn't an insurance company, it doesn't sell insurance on this site, and it doesn't take money from insurers to cover or skip a story. It isn't affiliated with, sponsored by, or speaking for any insurance company, agency, or brokerage. Nothing here is insurance, legal, or financial advice for your specific situation. Your policy documents and a licensed professional who knows your situation are the final word.
